F0M0R1AN (Fomorian) is the synthwave project of Canadian musician and scientist, Evan Thompson.
Fomorian started in late 2015 as an alternative creative outlet and
a channel for Evan’s love of astronomy, exploration, and science fiction.
Evan has been making music for 15 years.
He has been heavily involved in the music scene of his hometown, Calgary, having played guitar for many punk, rock, and metal bands.
His musical background has a significant impact on Fomorian’s sound, which often features heavy use of distorted guitars in recordings. Fomorian blends influences from not only synthwave, but also metal, orchestral, and ambient music to weave together soundscapes that attempt to find their unique place amongst the burgeoning synthwave scene.
Fomorian’s recordings attempt to explore multiple facets of space, from the darkly desolate and bleak expanse of the cosmos to the wonder of discovery and exploration.
Influences heard on Fomorian are varied and include synthwave artists such as Dynatron and Dan Terminus, composers Michael McCann and Jack Wall, and even metal bands such as the Devin Townsend Project and Mare Cognitum.
Fomorian seeks to take listeners on a wondrous journey through space and time, as an essential part of narratives both real and imagined. How far can we go? Let’s find out. “Per aspera ad astra – Through hardships to the stars.”
